Be It Enacted By the People of the state of Illinois Represented In the General Assembly That: The Inhabitants of the Town of Charlestown Coles County Illinois Shall Be Deeded & Considered In Law Incorporated Under the provisions of An Act to incorporate the inhabitants of such towns as may wish to be incorporated, Approved Feb, 12, 1831
The Town of Charlestown ^& The President & Trustees of, and their successors in office^ In Coles County shall Have In Addition to the powers Confered By the Provisions of the Aforementioned Act Shall Have Power To Regulate & License Taverns Groceries & [as?]
They To Demolish & Destroy Authorise the Destruction & Demolition of all Instruments & Devices used for the purposes of Gameing
To Forbid the Selling or Giving away of Any Ardent Spirits or other Intoxicating Liquor To Any Child Apprentice or servant without The Consent of His or Her master Parent, Guardian Master or Mistress
To Compel the owner of any or ocupant of any Grocery Cellar Tannery Shop Stable Barn Privy Sewer or other unwholsom nauseous House or place To Cleanse Remove or Abate the Same from Time to Time As Often As May Be necessary For The Health Comfort & Convenience of the Inhabitants of Said Town
To Direct & Manage the Storing of Powder,
To Erect Market Houses & Regulate Markets & upon Information Filed Before said Trustees on Oath That Any House or room In the Said Town Is used for the purposes of Gameing The Shall Have Power to

Authorise the Constable of said Town To Break Open & Enter said House or room For the purpose of Aresting such persons as may Be Gambling & Destroying & Demolishing such Instruments & Devices used for Gambling.
They shall Have power to Levy a Fine for the Breach of Any Ordinance Not Exceeding Fifty Dollars
They shall Have power to provide For the ^Re^survey of said Town & such ^Re^survey when made & Recorded shall Be Deemed & Considered to Be the Legal & Valid ^& Shall ^ Be Evidence In [relation?] to the Boundaries of the Lots In said Town & They May Erect Permanent Monuments of said survey [...?] Act Be
They shall Have power to Erect Lamp & Regulate the Lighting Thereof.
