Sec[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly, That the Trustees of the several seminaries of learning incorporated by the act
entitled “an ^act^ to incorporate the Seminaries of learning therein named,’’ approved March 2nd 1839, shall attach to their respective seminaries a department in which shall be
taught the branches usually taugh[taught] in common schools, and the same shall constitute the common school of the respective
districts in which said Seminaries may be situated. And the Trustees of said Seminaries
shall receive from the School Commissioners of their respective counties the same
amount of money in the same proportion and apply the same to such tuition in the same
manner as in other cases of Common Schools. The Teachers or instructors of said department
shall be selected by the Trustees and be under the control of the by-laws of said institutions respectively.
Sec. 2. The preceding section shall be applicable to the “Hanover Academy,” now in operation as a primary school by an act approved February 12, 1839.

in which the House concurred. The House passed the bill as amended on January 27.
The House reported the bill’s passage to the Senate, but the latter took no action.
