Sec[Section] 1. Be it Enacted by the People of the State of Illinois Represented in the General assembly
Sec 1 That the appraisements of Lots in the town of Lockport on which the Canal Commissioners have Erected dwellings together with the improvements
thereon as valued in July last by Richard G. Murphy, John B Witt, John Wood, and Merit L. [Cinu?], appraisers appointed by the Judge of the Circuit Court of Will County for the assessment of damages ^upon the Illinois and Michigan Canal^ in the Seventh Judicial Circuit—shall be deemed and taken as valid to all intents and purposes—any illegality of
the proceedings of said board to the contrary notwithstanding.
Sec 2 Be it ^further^ enacted that Joel Manning the Secretary of the Board of the Illinois and Michigan Canal be permitted to purchase lot No 8 in Block No 63 in the Town of Lock port (in Will County) on said Canal upon the same terms and under the same rules and regulations, as the President and
2 acting commissioner of said Board were authorised to purchase [

?] certain lots in said Town of Lockport any thing to the contrary notwithstanding

1Richard G. Murphy introduced HB 131 in the House of Representatives on January 15, 1840. On January 31, the House tabled a proposed amendment relating
to the Illinois and Michigan Canal by a vote of 55 yeas to 21 nays, with Abraham Lincoln voting yea. The House passed the bill without further debate. The House informed
the Senate of the bill’s passage, but the latter took no action.
