Section 1. Be it Enacted by the people of the State of Illinois represented in the General Assembly, That all that portion of ground, or strip of land lying west of the line of Section nine and between said section line and the Range of blocks and lots facing towards the East on State Street in the City of Chicago is hereby declared to be and is made a public street or highway and as such shall be subject to the same provisions and regulations as other streets and highways of said City are and ought to be

1On January 7, 1840, Gholson Kercheval in the House of Representatives presented the petition of the Common Council of the City of Chicago, which the House referred to a select committee. In response to this petition, Kercheval of the aforesaid select committee introduced HB 141 in the House on January 15. The House passed the bill on January 30. The House informed the Senate of the bill’s passage, but the latter took no action.
