A Bill for An Act to relieve L. B. & A. B. Staghton & Co.
1Sec.[Section] 1. Be it enacted by the people of the State of Illinois, represented in the general Assembly, That the commissioner of the Board of public Works for the fourth Judicial, be,
and he is hereby authorized and required to settle with L. B. & A. B. Staghton & co. for work done on the Northern Cross rail road; and upon ascertaining the amount due from the state to said L B. & A. B. Staghton & co., including all retained percentage, it shall be the duty of said Commissioner of
public works to draw his draft as such commissioner, in favor of Said L. B. & A. B. Staghton & Co., on the fund Commissioners for the sum ascertained to be due as aforesaid ^together with six percent interest thereon from the time the same should have been
paid ^. Which Draft Shall draw interest at the rate of six per cent., and be made payable
^on^ the fifteenth day of April next

1On January 15, 1840, Isaac P. Walker in the House of Representatives presented the petition of L. B. & A. B. Staghton & Co, which the House referred to a select committee. In response to this petition, Walker
from the aforesaid select committee introduced HB 147 in the House on January 17.
Representatives offered amendments, and the House referred the bill and proposed amendments
to the Committee on Internal Improvements. The Committee on Internal Improvements
did not report back the bill.
