Sec.[Section] 1 Be it enacted by the people of the state of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly,

That the School commissioner of the county of Greene be, and he hereby is authorized to sell Section number sixteen in Township nine north of Range Ten west, a part of which section being in Greene county and a part thereof in the county of Jersey; the sale shall be made and titles obtained in all respects [agreeable?] to the provisions of the laws which are now in force in this state, and all sales and purchases which may be made in pursuance to this act shall be as good and valid as if the whole of the said section of land lay and was situated in Greene county

Sec. 2

If a petition signed by the requisite number of the legal voters of the said Township hath previous to the passage of this act, been presented to the school commissioner of Greene county praying for the sale of the said sixteenth section, he may proceed to advertize and sell the same, and no petition su[bse]quent to the passage of this act shall be required,

1John Allen introduced HB 4 in the House of Representatives on December 11, 1839. The House referred the bill to a select committee. The select committee reported back the bill on December 13 with an amendment, in which the House concurred. The House passed the bill as amended on December 23. On December 27, the Senate referred the bill to the Committee on School Lands and Education, which did not report back the bill.
