1 Resolved that the committee on Post Offices and Post Roads be instructed to inquire
into the expediency of providing by law that deputy Post Masters, instead of the compensation
now allowed them, shall receive the rate of Commission specified in the act passed
on the 1

day of March 1847 entitled “An act to amend the the act entitled “an act reduce the
rates of postage &c”— said commissions however to be computed on the quarterly receipts
of their offices instead of on the annual receipts as in said act is provided.
2 Resolved that said committee inquire into the expediency of further providing ^that^ the Post Master General be authorized in his next settlement with the deputy Post
Masters, to carry back his compensation to the said 1st day of March 1847, and[have?] on the basis of the foregoing resolution to the 1

day of March 1847 and to allow to said deputy Postmasters any balance which may appear
in their favour [?] such compensation
