Mr Ferguson
Hon. Robt Smith Sir
I have been looking for some time to hear from you concerning bal of moneys due from the P.O. Department. Please attend to the matter as I am in want of funds at present. state to them that I have not received enough to even pay expenses and by examining 3 Letters from P. Merrill (P. M. at the time) they will find four contracts. they have satisfied themselves concerning the no. of trips. They also allowed the bargain between the P. M. and myself on two of the route’s and I cannot see why they should cut the Carlysle route about one third for they must be aware that it was the hardest route of the three. Get them to send me Draft for the whole amt if possible. If it is necessary I can show them that they are mistaken as to expences on Carlysle route; for no man can carry the mail for any such sum as they allowed me. Bal due me is about 160 Dollars but ^if you can get^ 100$ take it but I think they will pay full amt. It will make you some trouble but I will satisfy you for attending to it for me: by so doing you will much oblige
Yours RespectfullyMark Dickson
for Ferguson
R. Ferguson send his respects
