Charles Thayer of said county being duly sworn says that he was Post Master at Ann
Arbor during the years 1835..36..37..38. &. 1839..that during the four last of said
years william R Thompson of Ann Arbor was the contractor on the route from Detroit
to Marshall by Plymouth & that the mailes were regularly made up by me for all the places & points mentioned in his said Thompson
contract marked no 1703 three times a week & conveyed by him that after the Rail Road
was completed to Ypsilanti in February 1838, the large western mail was carried on
the Rail Road from Detroit to Ypsilanti & from Ypsilanti to Ann Arbor daily & was
made up by deponent as well as the mails at all intermediate points on said last mentioned
route daily
