My office is a distributing office of Packages for which the Post Master General has no power to make any Compensation, Except the
Commissioners on Letters and Papers Received at the office for distribution and which
amounts to about $300.00 per Annum, out of which I have to pay office Rent, Fire Wood
&c say $85,00. leaving only $215.001[¢?] for myself and assistant, I have to send three times a week by the stage for the
Eastern shore of Maryland, Five Bags, some of which hold Ten Bushels, also, a mail
twice a week to Chesnut Levee, Pennsylvania and also, a mail Twice a Week to South
Milford.
These duties Require the whole of my time. which duties I have been performing for
the last five years, as the compensation Received is not at all adequate for the duties
I have to perform, I most Respectfully ask your Hon Body to allow me an Extra compensation
of $250.00 [¢?] per annum.
