Dec 1847.To the Honorable the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States,
We your humble Petitioners pray your Honorable Bodies to establish a Post route from
Northumberland N.H. to East Burke Vt. through ^Guildhall^ Granby and Victory. One Post Office only is needed and that in Granby. We wish Gershom Carpenter appointed Post Master.
The distance of the proposed rout asked for is Twenty-two miles. We ask for the mail
to be carried through oncea week ^that is, from Northumberland N.H. to East Burke Vt. and from thence to back to Northumberland.^
We send you in the above a diagram of the surrounding towns and Post Offices. The
nearest Post Office is Lunenburg, which is nine miles from where we ask for ours.
Guildhall P. O. is eleven miles from us. East Burke is eleven miles. Victory East
Haven Ferdinand and Maidstone all of which you will see join Granby have no P. Offices.
That we may enjoy the privilege belonging to citizens of this Republic, and be on
a level with others in general is the prayer of your petitioners.
