Petition
To The Honorable, Senate and House of Representatives of the United States, of America, In Congress Assembled.
Your Petitioners, (the undersigned,) a portion of the citizens of the counties of Roane & Mcminn; and of the State of Tennessee: Would Respectfuly Represent, that in presenting this petition to your consideration, they have been influenced by no other motive than that, of living remote from any Post office, or Established Maile Line.
The subject of of a weekly Horse Maile Route from Kinston to Athens, and back once a week, A distance of some Thirty-three miles, with some three Post offices Established thereon, is one of Vital interest to a great portion of the citizens—in the above named Counties &c.
Your Petitioners, would therefore Pray, that the Congress of the U United States, would pass a Law Establishing a weekly Horse maile Route from Kingston to Athens, and Back once a week; with officies at the following n named places on s said Line, as above specified, that is to wit. From Kingston, to Bellefonte, Erie, & Oxford on to Athens. The undersigned are of opinion that a Route as above specified from Kingston to Athens, crossing the Tenn. River a Harwells Ferry, there through the paint Rock Valley ^By Robt. Campbell’s^ on direct to Athens, is the most direct line that can be had between those two points. Also, there being a large scope of country from fifteen to Twenty mile’s in wedth, that are now Entirely destitute of any maile Facilities what ever, and imbracing as Dense a population, as any section of country in East Tenn.

We are aware that no portion of country, have suffered more, on account of being Remotely situated from any maile Facilities, than we your Humble Petitioners have.
For Which Reasons We Pray your Honorable Body, Will Grant our Petition &c.
N. B.—For Further information we Refure you to the Map below, of the country.

Athens Petition
The subscribers, citizens of Athens, Tennessee, and vicinity, would respectfully represent to the Hon: the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States, the propriety, expediency and public utility of a Ma the establishment of a Mail Route between Kingston, Roane County, and Athens, McMinn County, Tennessee. Nothing need be urged as an argument in favor of such a route, but the fact that it would pass over a large scope of country densely populated, and entirely destitute of mail facilities.
