To the Hon. the Senate & House of Representatives in the Congress of the United State
Your Petitioners Citizens of the County of Eaton in the State of Michigan, Residing on or near the line of the State Road from Batle Creek to Lansing, the Capital of said State, Respectfully represent that the Seat of Government of said State having been lately removed to the Township of Lansing, in the County of Ingham, and that there has been lately Surveyed and Established a State Road from Battle Creek to the said Capital by the most direct and Eligible route, the distance whereof is Forty four. miles, passing through Bellevue and Charlotte, and that the towns and districts, on the line of said Road have no other direct Communication with the said Capital, and that the business of the Country is constantly and Rapidly increasing, and demands further facilities of Communication by mail with the Seat of Government than are at present afforded by the Circuitous Routes now Established
Your Petitioners therefore pray for the Establishment of a Daily mail Route from Battle-Creek, in the County of Calhoun, to Lansing in the County of Ingham, passing through Bellevue, and Charlotte,—for which your Petitioners will Ever pray
