To His Honor S. R. Hobbie first assistant post master GeneralSir
Whereas we the undersigned petitioners are much grived for the want of the necessary mail facilities, and Respectfully Sheweth to your honor that we the undersigned petitioners are citizens of the County and State aforesaid. We reside in the neighborhood of the Road leading from the City of Wetumpka on by the way of Nixburgh Socapatoy and Brownsville from thence to Talladega and Benton Counties, which Road is better known as the Socapatoy Road and is known to be densely populated and main thoroughfare of Travel Regarded as the best Route Run^n^ing direct north of the city of Wetumpka and undoubtedly must be preferable to any other Rout which can be Selected Run^n^ing north of the City of Wetumpka under the present mode which we are Supplyed with mail facilities is unsatisfactorily as all publications are from two to three weeks old before they Reach the hands to whom they are addressed. Montgomery City is about fifty miles from hence at which city The legislator is now in session and ^we^ know nothing of the proceedings of that body, only the organization.
Now we the petitioners do fervently pray for a mail twice a week or weekly as the department may deem proper, leaving direct from Wetumpka on the Socapatoy Road by the way of Nixburgh Socapatoy and Brownsville thence to Some other point Say Talladega Town, [Cu?] Stand, Jacksonville or to intersect the Route Running from Talladega Town to Randolph and Tallapoosa Counties &c Whereby the establishment of said Route would inhance an income to the general post office we judge the proceeds of each post offices which this Route would Supply, would more than meet the demands of transportation of said mail, and also by the establishment of this Route two other post offices would be established one between Wetumpka and Nixburgh and the other between Brownsville and Talladega Town. The distance from Wetumpka to the Town of Talladaga is about seventy five miles. consequently this space would afford five post Offices. The Youngsville Post Office is the distance of Eight Miles, and Pinckneyville is Twelve miles from Socapatoy, and can be Supplyed for a small Sum, from Socapatoy P.O. for the establishment of this mail Route as above stated we the petitioners will ever pray &c
