To the honorable the Senate of and house of Representatives of the United States in Congress assembled
The humble petition of the Subscribers citizens of Northcarolina and Tennessee and Countys of Buncomb[,] yancey[,] and Greene, respectfully represent to your honorable body the long existing and daily increasing necessity of a post route weekly on horse back from Ashville NC, through part of Buncomb, ^&^Yancey passing T. J. Garrisons, Henry Gilbert on Bull creak[,] the Indian Gap[,] the double Springs on the yancey line, and G. [Gahagans?] on big Laurel thence across the State line to Green county, to Sulphur Springs, and to John Loves (Limestone Spring office) about forty Two miles. Most of the citizens on and near said route are wholy Excluded from newspaper and other sources of general intelligence, all of whom would be relieved of their Isolated condition and consequent ignorance of the whole Machinery of government and Science by the establishment of the proposed Mail route we claim to be instinctively patriotic we appeal to the munificence of Congress to grant us this boon whose light will guide our energys and modify our patriotism and your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray
