To the Honerable Cave JohnstonPost Master Generall of the United States.
Your Petitioners of the counties of Columbiana, Carroll and Tuscarawas, represent
that it would add much to public convenience and to the revenue of the Post Office
department to establish a line of tri Weekly two horse coaches from Wellsville Columbiana
county Ohio, to New Philadelphia, Tuscarawas county Ohio. Your Petitioners suggest
that, the coaches start at Wellsville on Mondays so as to meet in Carrollton, the
coaches on Route 2010 by way of Inverness, Salinesville, Monroesville, Scroggsville,
Carrollton, New Cumberland & to New Philadelphia the same day. The proposed route
will be about 10 miles shorter than the present route between the same points.
The offices of Leavett and Rose will not be touched by this route as they are both
situated at considerable distance from the main and direct Road from Carrollton to
New Philadelphia and could not be passed by coaches. They are both country offices
and do but very little business, and an office can be established on the proposed
route that would answer the want of community, as well as both now do. By establishing
this route, the one from Minerva in Stark county to Wellsville will be intersected
at Salinesville that might therefore be reduced in length. The distance from Salinesville
to Wellsville 12 miles. Your petitioners therefore pray the said route may be established
