To the Honorable the Representatives of the United States, in Congress Assembled
We the undersigned Citizens of the Counties of Oktibbeha, Choctaw, and Yellobusha, & State of Mississippi, do most Respectfully, pray your Honorable Body do grant us, as well as many others a weekly mail, on the following Rout, viz. From Grenada Yallobusha County to Bellefontaine Choctaw County, thence to intersect a Rout now established from Columbus Miss., to Hopewell Chickasaw County, at a Post office Called “Fame” in Choctaw County. We deem the Establishment of a Mail on the above Rout of the utmost importance & utility, between the two extreme points is a wide scope of Rich & fertile Country, that is quite thickly settled by a very industrious & intelligent People whose facilities for obtaining information, either of a private or public nature, are rendered troublesome, tedious and uncertain on account of the scarcity of Post offices through the said Country, We Hazard nothing in Representing to your Honorable Body, the accumulation of no additional expense to the Government by the establishment of this Route, The Revenue that will accrue we ^have^ not the Shadow of a doubt will more than defray the expense of the same. Therefore to be Brief, we hope that your Honorable Body will grant this the Prayer of your Petitioners &c.
