The Undersigned Citizens of the state of Michigan would respectfully represent that
in consequence of the recent removal of the seat of Government of the State of Michigan
to the interior of the State, the present Mail routes have become insufficient for
the accommodation of those of our citizens residing north of the Central Rail Road;
who, equally interested with others in the transactions of the state Government, have
now no means of Communication with the Capitol, except by the circuitous routes, heretofore
established—that of these the residents in the Counties of Eaton Barry & Allegan Counties—directly
west of the New Capitol and largely populated, have no direct route whatever to their
seat of government being entirely dependant upon southern or Northern routes for intelligence therefrom. they would therefore
pray the establishment of a Post Route from [?]Michigan in the County of Ingham to Allegan the County seat of Allegan County by
the way of Oneida, Chester and Vermontville in the County of Eaton to Hastings the
county seat of Barry County & thence to Allegan aforesaid, and the Establishment of
a tri weekly

or [Daily?] Mail thereon.
And your Petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray &c.
