To the Congress of the United States:
The undersigned, citizens ofColumbianacounty, Ohio, respectfully ask the passage of a law by Congress, for a Daily Mail Route from Pittsburgh, Pa., down the Ohio River by Steamboats to some convenient and suitable point, thence west through New-Lisbon, Canton, Massillon, Wooster, to Mansfield. We are asred by competent authority that contracts will be taken for the conveyance, during eleven months of the year, on so much of said route as requires steamboat transportation.
The steady and regular increase of the business and resources of the great west require increased mail facilities, and we respectfully but earnestly ask Congress to grant such an augmentation of the mail service, as will enable, not only the enterprising business man, but community generally, to enjoy the benefits of a Daily communication. The revenues of the Post Office Department, we are persuaded, will be considerably augmented under such an arrangement.
