To the Hon. Senate and House of Representatives of the United States in Congress Assembled.
The petition of divers inhabitants of the Township of Sadsbury in the county of Chester;
and State of Pennsylvania, of the one part would respectfully represent, That your petitioners labour under extreme disadvantage
for want of a Post Road from the village of Penningtonville, situate in the township,
county & State aforesaid, on the Pennsylvania Rail Road (a Post Office being located
in said village G. W. Phillips P. M.) via the valley or State Road (leading to McCall’s ferry,) passing Cooperville P. O. (J Caise P. M.) thence by said road to the
Green tree inn: thence Northward about one mile (leaving the state road) to Bart P.
Office, thence in a Southwest direction about 3½ miles, entering the said state road
again at the place of Wm W Passmore, thence westward on said state road about 7 miles to the Buck P. O. (G
T Clark P. M.) in Drusmore Township Lancaster County and State aforesaid (said Buck
P. O. being on a Mail rout from Lancaster to [Port Deponte?],) a corresponding petition being made from Said Drusmore Township (Penningtonville
in Chester and the Buck in Lancaster Counties being the two extremes,) said rout will pass through a densely populated and well cultivated limestone valley immediately
contiguous to Furnaces, Mills, & Factories, the whole rout will embrace a distance of Eightteen (18) Miles
We earnestly petition your honorable body to grant said Rout and for a Mail to traverse the same twice each week, and believe it will be one of
the most profitable Routs to the Department in the County
