To the Honorable, the President of the Senate, and Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Congress of the United States.
The Petition of the undersigned, Members of the Legislature, and officers of Government, of the State of Mississippi, respectfully shows unto your Honor: That, that portion of the Citizens of the said state of Mississippi, resedent on, and adjacent to, the leading road from the Town of Raleigh in Smith County, to Ellisville, in Jones County, as will also, the citizins of said Towns of Raleigh & Ellisville, are in pressing need of additional mail facilities:
Your petitioners therefore, pray your Honorable body to establish a mail Rout, from the said Town of Raleigh, to via Smith’s and Fayetteville ^& Coates’ mills^ to Ellisville, to the end, that certain contemplated Post Offices, on, and at, the ends of said rout may be supplied with the mails.
And as, in duty bound, your petitioners will ever pray &c.
