To the Hon. the Senate and House of Representatives of the U.S. in Congress assembled,
The petition of the undersigned would respectfully represent that a mail route from Thompsons ferry (opposite Cape Girardeau Mo) by Thebes Santa-fe & Smithfield to Cairo, Alexander County Ill, would greatly facilitate communication to and from the southern Counties of this state as well as the southern Counties of missouri by giving them the advantages of the river mails to Cairo, it would also afford great facilities to St. Louis in the winter season when the river is blocked by ice there being a tri weekly mail from Cape Girardeau to to St Louis, and your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray &c
