To the Honorable the senate and house of Representatives of the United States of America
in Congress assembled
We the undersigned inhabitants living on or near the main traveled rout rom Chicago
to Springfield beg leave to represent
That whereas we have been for years suffering for the want of mail facilities have
petitioned repeatedly without affect and whereas the mail is now carried from Chicago to Willmington on said rout thence
off the course to Indiana and also from springfield to Pontiac on said rout thence
off the course to Ottawa leaving this link of forty three miles out of the chain of
communication direct between Chicago and Springfield entirely destitute of any advantage
of mails and whereas there is now living on said rout at Mazon south branch over fifty
families all from eight to fifteen miles from any post-office and whereas we believe
said rout would immediately become a source of some proffit to the department and
whereas we are resolved never to weary in well doing but to continue our prayers from
year to year until they are answered we would therefore respectfully solicit your
Honorable body to establish a mail rout weekly from Willmington in Will[...?] Co. through Mazon Grundy Co to Pontiac in Living-
Mazon South branch Oct. 10th 1847<Page 2>
