To the Honorable the Senate & House of Representatives of the U. States, in Congress
assembled at Washington, 1847-’48.
The undersigned, citizens of Coles, Sullivan and Macon counties, State of Illinois,
would respectfully represent, that they are destitute of mail facilities, on the route
below described, and pray your honorable bodies in consideration thereof, to pass
a law authorising such route, beleiving as your petitioners do, that it will not only
pay the cost of transportation, but also yield a revenue to the Government. While
at the same time it will confer a vast benefit to the people along the proposed route,
as follows—To leave Charleston ^Coles Coy.^ Every Monday morning, via Sullivan, the county seat of Moultrie county, & intermediate points, to Decatur,
Macon county, and returning back to place of starting on Wednesday, distance 50 miles
