To the Hon. Cave Johnson Post Master General ^Senate and House of Representatives^ of the United States, ^in Congress assembled.^
your Petitioners would Most respectfully state; that a portion of the Citizens of Fayette & Haywood Counties are labouring under great inconvenience in their Mail Facilities. we would state that there is no direct Mail rout from Memphis through Somerville Dancyville and Brownsville The southern mail to Dancyville, a flourishing village in Haywood county in the Midst of a densely populated and wealthy community travels via Sonerville and Bolver to Dancyville a distance of Eighty Seven Miles, whereas the distance from Memphis to Dancyville is only fifty miles. The Mail is thus delayed from five to twelve days in travelling thirteen Miles The southern Mail to Brownsville the county seat of Haywood county travells the same rout to Boliver thence to Jackson thence to Brownsville a distance of a bout one hundred and forty miles; where as the distance from Memphis to Brownsville is only about sixty five Miles. The premises considered they therefore pray for the establishment of a cross Mail from Somerville to Brownsville via Dancyville some two or three times per week.
yours verry Respectfully
