Petition
To the Hon Senate and House of Representatives of the United States in Congress assembled
We the undersigned electers in the County of Ashtabula and State of Ohio would respectfully represent unto your Hon body, that in our opinion, in consideration of the facts hereinafter mentioned, the interests and convenien[c?]e of the inhabitats of the townships of Monroe, Pierpoint, Richmond, Andover and Williamsfield, in this county would be greatly augmented by changing the conveyance of the mail from the road where it is at present carried and conveying it upon the center road.
Among the reasons shy we deem such a change proper, are the following, That Said center road runs directly through the centers of the above named townships, that said center road is a good road and nearer by over two miles, from the point where the mail now leaves the center road, to Kinsman, the first township [?] of Williamsfield; than by the way it is now carried, And that the inhabitants are more numerous, and that the business done, and the tavel upon said center road, is many times greater, than on the other roads
We propose that the said change be as follows That instead of allowing the mail to leave the center road at Monroe Center and go west two miles, thence South along the west sides of the townships, to Kinsman; it be continued from Monroe Center directly South through the centers of the townships of Monroe Pierpoint, Richmond, Andover and Williamsfield to Kinsman.
We would further State, that in case such a change is made, it will become necessary to establish a Post Office at Monroe Center. We therefore respectfully prey your Hon body that the above mentioned change in the mail rout be granted, and that a Post Office be established at the place above named, and that said Office be known by the name of “Monroe Center.
And we further recommend that John. W. Bushnell be appointed Post master at said Office.
