Hon, Mr Cave, Johnson, Postmaster General of, U.S,A.Honored Sir.
Beleiving that the Post office department of our Government was designed by our wise and benevolent Forefathers for the general good and accommodation of the people—We the undersigned Citizens of Preston. Co, Via, would respectfully represent to your department that we are almost wholly excluded from the privileges of the Post Office the nearest ones being some 8, or 10, miles distant, Therefore your humble petitioners would respectfully request of your Honor, to extend the Mail route already established between Morgantown, and Kingwood, our Co seat, directly on ^through our settlement^ to West Union ^or to Grimes Office^ on the Northwestern Turnpike a distance of about 20, miles, and locate an Office at or near Salt Lick Falls, to be called Salt Lick Post Office, as your petitioners are fully of the opinion that an Office at this point would sustain itself and for this desirable object your petitioners will ever pray
We also would recommend Elijah, E, Alford, as a suitable man to act for Postmaster and request that he be appointed.
