To the Senate and House of Representatives, of the United States, in Congress Assembled.
28th January 1848
We your petitioners, Sheweth to your Honorable bodies, that we reside in the county
of Franklin and State of Alabama; And in a Section of said County, where we are, from
our isolated Situation, entirely distitute of an[y?] mail fecilities, unless we travel a considerable distance t[o?] the nearest post office, which is ^a^ burden and an i[nconvenient?] ma[tt?]er [for us to get any mail?] matter whatev[er?], And also we will further represent to you, that we are dnsly populated, in ^this^ part of Our said Section of Fran[k?]lin County, and that there is a public road leading from [R?]usselville, the Seat of Justice, for said County, to Wm Dickson’s on Buzzard Roost, a distance of about thirty three miles, through the
midst of our neighbourds. We therefore petition and desire, that the said road be
made a mail rout from Russelville, to Buzzard Roost, so that the mail may be carried
Once a week, on the said route, which arrangement w[o?]uld be a matter of very great Interest and Convenienc[e?] to us, and for which we your petitioners, would as in duty bound ever pray &c.
