Enclosed I send you petitions for a mail rout through our neighborhood
Tis on the [Pike?] we were conversing about when you was canvasing the County preveous to your Election
I will Endeavour to give you a little correct knowledge of the location of the mail
routs, now in Existence and the one Petitioned for The distance by the Belpre rout
[...?]from Marietta to Athens is called by the Post office Department 45 miles the actual
distance 491/2 miles the distance through Barlow & Plymouth 42 The distance by the Tree Turnpike
40 1/2 and the Ma[?] will not be impeded, by the [?]ets of the Hocking City Having made a statement of the distances of the different
routs I will endeavour to give you a digram of the rout the upper line is the north
Line1 of town [102?] Range 9 10 = 11 & 12

on that line the Turnpike leaves the Ohio river on a direct course to Federalton Post
office where it again intersects the River road The Constitution off[...?] O Post office is located on the river road at the Pointt where the Turnpike leves it
The distancs are as follows by the river rout from constitution to Belpre 6 1/4 miles Belpre to center Belpre [...?]33/4 M from Center Belpree to Little Hocking 4 M. Little Hocking to Hocking City 71/2 M Hocking City to Federalton 71/2 miles whole distance 29 miles. By the Turnpike from constitution to Glendale 5 1/4 miles Glen dale to Shaws Corners 23/4 3 shaws Corners to Decater 51/2 M Decater to Federalton 71/4 miles whole distance 211/2 miles The above may be relied upon as correct If any error will be found it will
be in the longest rout which I have made to short by 1/2 to 3/4 of a M whi we looke to you General to Take charge of the Petitions hand them over to the Post office
& Post roads Com & give them such information as you can & write to me if more be needed also if a more
enlarged list of Petitioners will be necessary Direct to Constitution Washngton County
we feel as though if we fail in the establishing of a mail it will not be from the
necssity of the rout but from a want of knowledge of our circumstances by the
