Mocksville 27th Decr 1847Hon. N BoydenSir
Enclosed is a petition to Change our mail route No 2884, from Salem to via Clemmonsville, Smith Grove, Mocksville, County Line ^&^ Oak Forest, to Statesville, so as to leave Lexington via Fulton, Mocksville, County
Line, & Oak Forest to Statesville Twice a Week. The time of leaving Lexington to determined
by the arrival at that place of the great Northern mail of which you will be (of Mr
Shepperd) informed by the Post Master at Lexington. this change would discontinue
the Post Office and Smith Grove, which is a very small Office. and the Salem & Wilksboro
line could supply the Clemmonsvill Office via Panther Creek. Or you can arrive at
the time, it should leave Lexington by the arrival at Salisbury of which you are aware.
This change in our mail would greatly facilitate the transportation of inteligence
to this place which is greatly deficient under the present arrangement. as an instanct,
the 11th is the is the last Inteligencer is the last we have had here. the 27th there is great complaint among the people here, and I hope you will try and get a better arrangement effected.
Yours very RespectfullySml Rose P MHon. N Boyden<Page 2>
