To the Honorable the Senate & House of Representatives of the United States of America, in Congress assembled at Washington, Decr 1847
The petition of the undersigned respectfully sheweth, that the citizens of Clark and Coles counties, State of Illinois, from York, in the first named county, via Melrose Martinsville, & Salisbury to Charleston, are destitute of proper mail facilities, and they therefore pray your honorable bodies to enact a law establishing a weekly mail ^ Route^ on the above named Route, arranging it so as to leave York in Clark county every Friday morning, & passing through the intermediate points above named, arrive at Charleston, ^on the same day,^ and thence back on next day to said place of starting, distant 40 miles. Your petitioners believe that said Route will fully pay the cost of its transportation &c And your petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
