To the Post master general of the United States.
your Petitioners Respectfully Represent that they are very desirous to have a post
office established at the house of John G. Joness at or near the mouth of Hewits creek a branch of the spruce, fork of Little Cole
river in the County of Boone ^Virginia^ to be called the spruce fork Post office. they further represent that in the neighborhood
of that place there is a new and growing settlement which would be exceedingly benefitted
by the establishment of such an office especially by affording to the citizens such
faculties in the receipt of news papers public documents and other papers as to enable
them to avail themselves of the useful intelligence they usually furnish your petitioners
further state that the place proposed lies to the left of the present rout of the
mail from Ballardsville Post office to Chapmansville post office and they further
state that the place proposed lies on the main state road from Kanawha to Logan court
house which road was located this last fall.
and your Petitioners are very desirous that the mail rout would be changed so as to
go by the proposed office from Kanawha to Logan C Ho ^Va^ and return by Chapmansville as the present mail carier lives nearly on the road by
the proposed office and it would suit him much better to go or return by home, the
distance from Ballardsville to the place proposed is about Eleven miles and from Logan
C Ho virginia is about fourteen miles and from Chapmansville is about fourteen miles
and the inhabitants within Two miles is about Twenty five and the road via) of the
proposed office is five miles nearer

from Kanawha to Logan c Ho than to go by chapmansville and its is equally as good
Your Petitioners further state that [Bartholomew Holden?]
^Greenville Nelson (sen)^ is a very suit^a^ble person to discharge the duties of Post master and we have no doubt he is competent
as well as honest Your Petitioners therefore hope that their request which they deem
reasonable will be granted and they are not aware of any rule or principle of the
department under which it must be denied to them
