To the Honorable Senate & House of Representatives of the United States.
The undersigned respectfully ask for the establishment of a Mail Route from Kalamazoo in Kalamazoo County & State of Michigan to Lima in the State of Indiana a distance of less than sixty miles passing through the following places viz:
From Kalamazoo via of Austins Lake in Portage. 7 miles. Thence to Holland Post Office (called Vicksburgh) six miles. Thence to the John N Backeys in Brady 4 miles. Thence to Mendon (on the St Joseph River) 7 miles Thence to Sand Lake 7 miles. Thence to Sturgis Prairie about 10 miles. Thence to Lima in the State of Indiana 6 miles.
Your petitioners represent that there is now established a mail route from the Mouth of Grand River Grand Rapids in Kent County Michigan to Kalamazoo & also that there is a Mail Route from Fort Wayne in the State of Indiana to Lima & that by the establishment of the route asked for by your petitioners a continuous route would exist from Fort Wayne via of Lima in Indiana, Mendon & Kalamazoo in Michigan to Grand Rapids aforesaid.
And your petitioners will ever pray &c.
