To the Honorable the Senate and House of Representatives in Congress assembled
January 1848
The undersigned inhabitants of the Counties of Will & Iroquois state of Illinois respectfully
represent that rapidly growing importance of the section of country we inhabit in
business and population in our judgment claims of the national Legislature an increase
of Mail facilities in opening a channel of inter-communication between the interior
and the great thoroughfare of our State, the Illinois and Michigan Canal And to this
end we pray your Honorable Body to establish a Mail Route between Joliet Will county Illinois and Lafayette of the State of Indiana and thus
your Petitioners as in duty bound will ever pray.
