please permit me through this medium to ask a favour of you I.E the superintending
of the establishment of a mail rout As follows to start at Salem Tippah Co Miss thence
runnig Eastwardly to Capt I H Nortons 10 miles thence to Wm McLean’s store ^7 miles^ still Eastwardly thence in the same direction to Fingers cross roads ^6 miles^ where it will intersect a male line from Riply to Purdy Tennessee
Some time last Summer Esqr Mcleane and I got up two pertitions for the establishment
of the above male rout I obtained upwards of a hundred assigners to my petition and
Esqr McLean a goody number to hisI sent the above petitions to Mr Simon R Spight P M at Ripley for him to send on to the general P M at Washington
CityMr Spight told me the 1st of Novr last that he had sent them on to the General P M Since which time we [hard?] never a word of them
<Page 2>
We have a large scope of country here entirely destitute of mail facilities therefore
if you will see to this matter you will confer a great favour on a large and respectable
portion of Tippah CoWe wish an office established at Capt I H Norten’s and one at Esqr McLean’s storeThe offices names as follows that at Capt Nortons to be called Point-Success and that
at Esqr McLeanes (McLean’s store)
McLeane to be P M at his store and N. H. Stockton at Cat Nortons
Location of post offices now established
<Page 3>
I feel satisfied that this rout will soon more than [defrarry?] expences and it would be greatley [...?] to the advantage of this section of country
P Please (if you do anything wither it) address the P M in Salem or me at the same
office
