To the Honorable the Congress of the United States:
The petition of the undersigned citizens of Lycoming & Sullivan counties & State of
Penna respectfully represent, That they labour under great disadvantages for want of a
mail route from Williamsport the county seat of Lycoming County along the valley of
the Little Loyalsock creek to Cherry in Sullivan County. That letters and communications
must now go around of near one hundred miles to reach one of the aforesaid points
if sent from the other, that until the erection of suitable buildings by the commissioners
which may not be for many years the public offices and county business will be situated
and transacted at Cherry; That the country along the Loyalsock creek is becoming thickly
settled and the citizens labour under great inconveniences for want of proper mail
facilities.
We therefore pray your honorable bodies to pass a law, establishing a semi weekly
mail between the points aforesaid, and we will pray &c.
