To the Honorable, the Congress of the United States.
We the undersigned citizens of Pike and Scioto Counties, respectfully petition your
Honorable Body, to establish a New Mail Rout between Piketon and the Slavens’ Settlement,
on Little Scioto Creek, in Beaver Township, Pike County, Ohio;—and on which to locate
a Post-Office, at, or near Charles Slavens’ in said Township, to be known by the name
of GIBSON Post-Office.
This is a point, near which a large number of citizens in Pike and Scioto Counties
live, who are almost entirely without mail privileges or conveniences;—being situated,
11 miles from Piketon, P. O., and 8 miles from Beaver, P. O. in Pike County and 8
miles from Harrisonville, P. O. and 8 miles from Lucasville, P. O. in Scioto County.
It is proposed to have a weekly mail from the above named place, to Piketon,—to start
from the new Post-Office on Saturdays, and reach Piketon at 12 o’clock, M. and to
return the same day.
