To the Senate & House of Representatives of the United States in Congress assembled.
We the undersigned inhabitants of Almena in Vanburen County pray the honorable post office department that they establish a mail rout from Paw Paw to Otsego intersecting Alimo rout from
Kaalamazoo to Otsego, and establish an office in Almena, (and we would recommend Dr. John A
Chase as every^way^ competant for P. M.) for the following reasons, viz. The adjacent country is thickly setled and no P. O. nearer than [...?] five miles of the Doctor’s, and many of the inhabitants are now obliged to go from
eight to twelve miles for there letters and papers, the road is good and much travelled on which ^we^ wish to have the office, leading direct from Paw Paw to Otsego.
