To the Hon Senate & House of Representatives of the 30th Congress now in Session
Your Petitioners Citizens and residents of the Towns of Fletcher and Bakersfield in
the County of Franklin and Cambridge in the County of [Lamoille?] and State of Vermont respectfully represent that in the opinion of the undersigned
the Public good and particularly the interests convenience & accommodation of your
Petitioners require the Establishment of a Mail route from Cambridge Post office in
the County of Lamoille leading through the north eastern part of Fletcher to Bakersfield
Post office in the County of Franklin a distance of Eleven Miles.
Your Petitioners further represent that for more than thirty years previous to 1839
the Mail was carried on said route that about the year 1839 said route was discontinued
for reasons unknown to your Petitioners and greatly to their inconvenience & Damage.
Your Petitioners further represent that Since 1839 the Population of the north eastern
part of Fletcher and the northern part of Cambridge has increased nearly one half,
that there are Sixty Families numbering in all three Hundred & fifty persons, who
live on and in the vicinity of the of contemplated route and said families and persons are now compelled to

Travel from three to Seven miles to get to the nearest Post office now established
in said Towns, that the letters & papers sent by Mail to the persons belonging to
said Families are carried from 20 to 40 miles on the routs now established and lodged
in Post offices located a greater distance from the persons to whom they were directed
than the Post office at which the same were Mailed.
Yours Petitioners further represent that the interest and convenience of the families and
persons residing on and in the vicinity of the Mail route contemplated as of require
the establishment of a Post office at north Cambridge in the County of Lamoille a
distance of 4 miles from Cambridge Post office. Your Petitioners further represent
that in our opinion the Mail may be carried on said route once a week (say Friday)
leaving Cambridge at 11 oclock A.M. and arrive at Bakersfield at 2 oclock P.M., leave
Bakersfield at 3 oclock P.M. & return to Cambridge on the same day for the Sum of
Forty Dollars per annum and that the Postage on letters & Papers if said Post office
is established will pay the expense for carrying the Mail on said route.
Therefore your Petitioners humbly pray that the merits of this Petition may be duly
considered by your Hon Body and such proceedings had in the [premises?] as become necessary to establish said Mail route and Post office [agreeably?] to the Prayer of your Petitioners
