To the Honorable the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States in Congress
Assembled.
The undersigned citizens of Saint Charles and Warren counties in the state of ^Missouri^ Respectfully represent that it would be much to our convenience living on and near
mail route number 4717 from Saint Charles to Pinckney and but very little if any additional
expence to the Post Office department to have it changed. To run from Saint Louis
through what is called Bonhome Bottom crossing the missouri River at Howells Ferry
where it would take the old route on by Missouritown Augusta [Ferneosage?] marthasville to Pinckney (leaving out no office on old route)
The distance from st Charles to Pinckney the way the mails now travels is about sixty miles nine or ten on the same road which a daly mail runs and then fifteen or 18 miles to missouritown before the mail is opened
The distance from Saint Louis by Bonhome Bottom to Pinckney by the proposed route
will be about seventy five miles
It will give us a more direct communication with saint Louis where we have a market
for our produce and is important to give and receive information as early as possible
for our mutual advantage
The route will pass through a rich and flourishing section of Saint Louis county the
citizens of which we are informed very inconveniently situated in respect to Post
offices and would ask for them if the route is established.
All of which is respectfully submitted
