To the honorable Cave Johnson Postmaster General of the United StatesSir
we the under signed Citysens resciding in the North east part of Madison County in the State of Illinois do hearby suggest and earnestly solicit you to take under concideration the propriety of establishing A Cross mail route from Greenville in bond County to
the town of Staunton in MoCoupin County a distenc of som twenty five or six miles we [do?] further petition for the establishment of a post office at the hous of Robert Greening who resi^des^ a bout sixteen miles from Greenvill and eight or nine from from Staunton on said route[.] we would al so further Recommend him as a person suitable to act as post master. By your Granting
this our petition you will Confer a great favor on a dense populated portion of our
county who under present circumstances are laboring under Great inconveananc for the want of mail acommodations [?] For further perticulers in relation to the above we would refer you to the Hon Robert Smith our representative
in Congress from this district who Can give you all the nessary information on this subject
