To The Honl The Senate & House of Representatives in Congress Assembled
Your petitioners Citizens of Union Johnson & Massac Counties ^in Illinois^ humbly petitioning sheweth to your Honorable bodies That a Mail Rout, leading from Jonesborough in Union County to Metropolis Massac County is greatly needed by your petitioners[.] This rout will be fifty miles in length, & pass along a good public road The road leading from Jonesborough to Metropolis, a public highway. many of the citizens along this rout live Twenty miles from any post, Office and in addition to this fact the [rout?] is already a very public Thoroughfare nearly east & west and will in time be [one?] of the most public in the West, In tender consideration of the premises your petitioners pray this said rout may be established a try weekly mail rout, and Jacob [Rustler?], be appointed post master on said rout, and a post office established at his house and as in duty bound they will ever pray &c
