May 18th 1848To the Congress of the United States
Your petitioners citizens of White and the adjoining Counties would represent to your
Honorable body that we labour under serious inconvenience by not having a mail more
than once a week. We would therefore pray you to establish a Mail Route from Monticello
to Lafayette in continuation of a Route already established from South Bend Ind to
Monticello and that we have a Mail on said Route twice a week. And your petitioners
as in duty bound will ever pray &c
