To the Congress of the United States in Senate and House of Representatives and to
the Hon. Cave Johnson Postmaster General.
The undersigned inhabitants of the town of Macomb in St Lawrence Co. respectfully
represent. That the Mail Route No. 1049 now runs from Heuvelton through Depeyster
and Macomb by the South or Old State Road to the Ox Bow in Jefferson Co. and the undersigned
petition for the alteration of said route or for the establishment of a new Post Route
from Heuvelton in St. Lawrence Co. N.Y. through Depeyster on the present route to
the Depeyster Post Office thence by the road through the town of Macomb by the way
of Popes’ Mills to Rossie in the County of St. Lawrence N.Y. And for the establishment
of a Post Office at Popes’ Mills in the town of Macomb.
This change will shorten the Mail Route from three to four miles. Will much better
accommodate the Town of Macomb as to the location of their Post Office. Will furnish
the people of Depeyster and Macomb a direct Mail communication with Rossie with which
place they have business connection and very little or none with the Ox Bow. And
it will unquestionably increase the number of papers and letters transmitted through
the Mail. Popes’ Mills is the business locality for the town of Macomb having a Grist
Mill Saw Mill Clothing Work and

Machine Show and is the only place in said town where any business in Merchandize
is done. It is six miles from the present Post Office and a large majority of the
people of Macomb will be much better accommodated by the location of the Post Office
at Popes’ Mills as the number of petitioners hereto will show.
