Nov. 1848To the honorable Sennet and house of representatives in congress assembled
we the undersigned citizens of Ritchie Gilmore and Dodridge Counties Virginia, pray
your honorable body to authorise the establishment of a weekly poast rout from Glenvill
the county cite of Gilmore county to West union the County cite of Dodridge County
with the establishment of two intermediate offices, one on Bone creek in the south
East corner of Ritchie County 14 miles from glenvill and the other in Lawthers Settlement
on the South fork of Hughes River Ritchie County 10 miles frm Bone creek and 10 miles
from West union makeing the whole rout 34 thirty foure miles though a flourishing
and fast improving Country, Entirely destitute of mail privileges. the nearest office
to Bone Creek is 14 miles and the nearest South for 10 miles your petitioners ^would^ further represent to your consideration the proppriety of Establishing an office
on the N Western turnpike about 5 miles West of Westunion which is the point the rout
called for will meet Sd Turnpike and would shorten Sd rout that amount and further
more so soon as a proper person can be procured at the point where Sd rout crosses
the Stanton and Parkersburgh Turnpike to keep the office (which we think will not
excede one year) by opening an Office at that point, which is 7 miles from glenvill,
the present rout from Leading creek to glenvill of 9 miles could be discontinued and
all the business be done by the one rout which will save 9 miles more on the new
rout
We your petitioners recommend george Collins
