To the Senate & House of Representatives in Congress assembled.
Whereas by the Constitution power is given to Congress to establish Post Roads and
Post Routs. Therefore we the undersigned respectfully ask your Honorable body to
establish a Post Route from Russelville Kentucky via Osceola (Whitescarvers store)
distant 10 miles, thence to Rochester miles Hamburg 7 miles thence to Rochester 14 miles thence to Hartford 18 miles. Rochester
is situated on Green River at Lock No 3 where there is annually a large quantity of
Tobacco, Pork, Lard Bacon &c &c Shipped from the adjacent counties and also where
there is a large quantity of Goods for Russelville & the other interior Towns and
counties landed by the Steam Boats that [were?] There being no direct mail Route from Rochester to Russelville and the other interior
towns we are put to great inconveniences and expense in giving & receiving communications
from our Shippers &c
As citizens we ask you to establish this Post Route as a favor and as Republicans
have we not a right to demand it
