To the honorable the House of representatives of the United States
Your Petitioners would respectfully represent that the convenience of the Public would
be much promoted by a daily Mail between Ithaca in Tompkins County and Bath in Steuben
Co. in the State of New York passing through Truman’s & Cayutaville in Tompkins county
and Odessa Havana & Townsend in chemung Co and Monterey in Steuben Co.
The above Named Vilages are rapidly increasing in population and wealth and already a vast amount of buisness is daily transacted in them and the community suffer great inconvenience and loss
from the [Spaiciness?] and infrequency of the Mails
Your Petitioners would further represent that that the route above designated is decidedly the Most level direct and Shortest (being
about 50 Miles) between the above Named places that can be found and that the roads
are in a sufficiently improved State for the transmision of Mails in Post coaches, and also that a daily Mail in Stages would Not only increase
the buisness facilities ^but^ greatly add to the revenue of the Post Office Department.
We therefore pray that Congress will take immediate action upon this Subject as it
is demanded by the interest of this Community and the People generally
