TO THE HONORABLE THE CONGRESS OF THE UNITED STATES:
We the subscribers would represent that the extension of the Harlem Rail Road will soon open a communication between the cities of New York and Albany, with the exception of a stage route of about fifty miles between Dover in Dutchess county, and Chatham 4 Corners in Columbia county. It would specially promote the interests of the inhabitants residing on that route to have a daily mail established on it, and we think it can be done consistently with the interests of the department.
Daily mail (Sundays excepted) by Rail Road to Dover, and by stage through the east part of Dutchess county, through Ancram, Copake and Hillsdale to Chatham 4 Corners in Columbia county, and thence by Rail Road to Albany. Distances from New York to Dover, by Rail Road, 80 miles; Dover to Chatham 4 Corners, by Stages, 50 miles; Chatham 4 Corners to Albany, by Rail Road, 20 miles. We respectfully recommend it to your consideration.
