To the Hon. Cave JohnsonPost Master General of the U. States:
The undersigned petitioners, citizens of Williams County, Ohio, and Hillsdale County, Michigan, would respectfully represent to your Honorable self, that a weekly mail route from Bryan, Ohio, by way of Jefferson Cross Roads, Norris’, Rowland, Oceo, to Hillsdale, Michigan, is very much needed. That it would afford mail facilities to a large portion of inhabitants, who are now deprived of the means of mail communication, and that they believe the increased amount of patronage would be sufficent to Jestify the establishment of such a route. The present route from Bryan, Ohio, to Hillsdale, Michigan, by way of Montpelier, Spring Lake, and Northwest, and Camden runs at a distance west of the proposed route varying from five to thirteen miles; whilst the route running from Defiance, Ohio, to Adrian, Michigan, runs east of the proposed route at a distance varying from eight to twelve miles, leaving a large extent of territory, and quite a numerous population, without the means of a north and south route. They would further represent, that the distance of the proposed route from Bryan to Hillsdale, is about thirty-four miles. Hoping that the Department will hear their petition, the undersigned will evr pray.
