To the Hon. Cave JohnsonPost Master General of the United States
The undersigned petioners citizens of Williams Co, Ohio and Hillsdale Co. Michigan would respectfully represent
to your Honerable self that a weekly mail route from Bryan Ohio by way of Jefferson crossroads, Norris’
& Rowland, & Osce to Hillsdale Michigan is very much needed that it would afford Mail facilities to
a large portion of inhabitants who are now deprived of Mail communications and that
they believe that the increased amount of patronage[s?] would be sufficient to satisfy the establishment of such a route. The present route
from Bryan Ohio, to Hillsdale Michigan by way of Montpelier Spring Lake North West,
and Camden runs at a distance west of the proposed route varying from five to thirteen
Miles while the route running from Defiance Ohio to Adrian Michigan runs east from
the proposed route at a distance varying from eight to twelve Miles leaving a large
extent of teritory and quite a numerous population without the means of a North and South route. They
would further represent that the extent of the proposed route from from Bryan, to Hillsdale is about thirty four Miles. Hoping the Department will hear
their petition the undersigned will ever pray.
